![]() My only major complaint is that the draw distance can be distractingly low. I'm actually surprised how much better the Sky Flyer feels in this one compared to 2 and 3. ![]() The level themes are fun, there's plenty of Apes to un-Escape, the unique control scheme is as tight as in 3 the music is god tier, and the gadgets all feel good. Going back to Ape Escape 1, its wild how right they got the formula on the first try. So I started with Ape Escape 2 and fell in love with it and 3 (my favorite one). We had a couple PS1 games (Castlevania SotN and Megaman X4) but because we were so preoccupied with newer games we didn't really go back for PS1. As a kid, I missed out on most of the PS1 games because my primary childhood consoles were Gamecube and PS2. So I bought an RoG Ally, and with it, I've been tearing through some older games I haven't played before. Thankfully all mini-games are playable on their own from Ape Academy's main menu, which allows you to figure out how to beat it in the game proper.A gaming sub free from the hype and over saturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Apart from one line explaining what you need to achieve, Ape Academy gives you little to no indication of how to control the mini-game - you'll fail a lot of the games the first time through simply because you have no idea what's happening. One of the questions we got was who was England's first Prime Minister after World War II - that sounds more like homework than a game to us.Īll of the mini-games also share a hair-tearing lack of instructions, meaning that you'll be going through a heavy process of trial and error the first time you come across them. Ask Darwin in particular becomes quite difficult and obscure. While many are a joy to play, there are some odd selections in the mix - the trivia-like Ask Darwin and the numbers-based Monkey Drill will probably put off the younger gamers this title is obviously aimed at. These games range from quite fun to not at all. There are even mini-games to test your general knowledge (Ask Darwin) and maths prowess (Monkey Drill). Spot The Difference - which asks you to pick the monkey with a different banner than the others - will test your memory. ![]() ![]() Challenges like the 1.00m dash - which requires you to be the first to press the Circle button when the game announcer yells 'Go' - will test your reflexes and your nerve. There are dozens of mini-games to be unlocked in Ape Academy, although that number is padded out a bit by Ape Academy counting harder versions of the same challenge as a new game.
